Free AfricaFiles Lecture
Plan to attend the free AfricaFiles lecture, a popular part of their day-long Annual General Meeting. This year we have invited Barbara Fullerton, who recently visited communities surrounding gold mines in Tanzania and heard their stories. Barb represented the United Church of Canada at an interfaith consultation on resource extraction in Tanzania. She also happens to be Vice-Chair of the AfricaFiles Board and was past Coordinator of the organization, so she’s got a lot of passion for social justice in Africa. The presentation will be followed by a discussion period led by Wendy Gichuru, the Programme Coordinator for Africa and The Middle East in the Partners in Mission Unit of the United Church of Canada.
The lecture Gold: Losing its lustre in Tanzania will share the stories she heard while travelling around these communities in the Sanctuary of the Trinity-St. Paul's United Church at 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto. The lecture will start shortly after 1:30 and run until approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday February 4th, 2012.
