Protect Civilians in Sudan: A call to the UN Security Council (Act by: 7/15/2012)

The United Nations Security Council issued a resolution calling for humanitarian access to South Kordofan and Blue Nile. However, it failed to impose a timeline or other conditions. Meanwhile, the Sudanese Armed Forces continues to carry out indiscriminate aerial bombing of these states along the border of South Sudan. Add your voice to a petition calling on the UN to condemn this bombing and allow humanitarian organizations immediate access to these areas. CJW

Nigeria: Thousands at risk of forced eviction (Act by: 7/22/2012)

Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State, is in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta and thousands of people are currently at risk of forced eviction in the city. The security forces began demolishing their homes on 27 June; nearly 300 homes have been demolished and hundreds of people have been made homeless. While Nigeria’s constitution calls for the provision of adequate shelter for all citizens, it is a "directive principle" and not enforceable by Nigeria’s courts. Call on authorites to stop the forced evictions and provide housing for those already made homeless. CJW
